Subject: We helped William across the bridge

Sometimes after Ian got home this evening William went down and he could not get back up and he struggled and cried. Best guess is a stroke or a blood clot to a vital area. It might have been treatable, but with his congestive heart failure and diabetes .... For the last four months he's had a lot of so-so days, a few good days and a few days when he was clearly beyond moderate discomfort and I began to doubt that saving his life 4 months ago had been a nice thing for him.

He was close to unconscious by the time they inserted line. Ian would not let them do it in the back room but insisted they do it while he stood near.

William did not seem to notice the needle. I had seen him last night and it was not a good night for him. I told him then it was okay if he needed to go. I could accept it better now.

We have a new baby kitty that I got over the weekend so we will play with him and try to be happy for the time we are allowed to share with each of them.

" And, my friend, when I am very old and I no longer
enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make
heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any
fun. Please see to it that my life is taken gently.
I shall leave this earth knowing that with the last breath
I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands."
