He's improving. He is sleeping on our bed right now, but mostly we keep him in the bathroom. As he started feeling better he wants out but then he'd put himself back in the bathroom after a few minutes. He's just not strong enough to make a long tour of the house.

Although when we first brought him home, he insisted on doing just that. Later in the evening I put him on the bed with Ian. When I came back William was draped over Ian ...not something he normally does. I think he was feeling rather needy the first night but less so after that. (He can't stay on our bed all night because he needs to be close to an easy entry litter box right now.)

So it looks like he'll make it through the crisis and then maintain on heart medication and lasix for the rest of his life. We have to revisit the diabetes issue at some point. His blood work indicates diabetes is likely but the vets says we need fructose test to know for sure. The vet gave him insulin the weekend he had William ...but says he may have overdone it and that could have brought on the seizures they saw Saturday.

They usually live 18 months to 2 years after this level of a crisis. That will put him to about 15 years old which is considered good for cats who don't have heart problems. We shall see.

I'm going to have to keep a better grip on my emotions I think. In the next two to three years we are likely to have a crisis and probably lose five or maybe six of our elder kitties. I suppose even Nickie could go in that time period although I hope he lives past 12/13, but one can never know for sure. (I don't even want to think about the five people in our lives who are now in their mid-80's. I guess the next few years are going to have some sadness, and that is only from what we can reasonably expect and does not included tragedies of one type or another.)

In any case, the quacky boy is feeling much better and sleeping curled up like a kitty should. Before that he was resting with his head raised and I'm not sure he was sleeping. It's nice to see that even if it's just a small reprieve.
