Hepatitis C Outreach Project will be working with Oregon Health Licensing to introduce a statewide campaign to educate the public, and especially persons aged 13-20, about the unseen potential health risks related to obtaining a Body Piercing or Tattoo.
The purpose of the campaign is NOT to advocate against getting a piercing or tattoo. The purpose is to make sure that an informed, personal decision is made whether or not to obtain a piercing or tattoo.
Several educational products have been developed to inform three focus age groups: 13-16 year olds, 17-21 year olds, and people above age 21. These materials will be distributed to school districts, health providers, county health departments, county prevention education programs, body piercing licensees, tattoo licensees and two-year or four-year colleges and universities in Oregon.
The materials will be distributed beginning in April 2001.
We are hoping that this will open the doors to programs of this kind nationally. Seeking collaborative partners and funding for efforts.
