RadioTherapeutics Introduces the LeVeen(TM) CoAccess(TM) Electrode
System
Third
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 9 /CNW/ -- RadioTherapeutics Corporation announced today that it has introduced the LeVeen CoAccess Electrode System, a unique
system that provides physicians with the ability to separate the steps needed to access diseased or unwanted tissue from the actual step of destroying (ablating) that tissue.
The CoAccess System is the third major new product to be launched by the company over the past three months, and was preceded by the introduction of the RF 3000(TM) Radiofrequency Generator and 4.0cm LeVeen Needle
Electrode in the fourth quarter. The CoAccess System is covered by three issued and four pending U.S. patents and has received marketing clearance from the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the general indication of ablation of soft tissue. LeVeen Electrodes have also been cleared recently for the more specific indication for the ablation of non-resectable (not surgically removable) benign and malignant lesions in the liver. Since only 10 to 15 percent of liver cancer patients can be treated surgically, this specific clearance expands the options for the approximately 1.5 million individuals
with liver cancer worldwide.
The CoAccess System consists of two components: an Introducer Set and a LeVeen CoAccess Electrode. The Introducer Set, composed of an Insulated Cannula and Stylet, is used to target liver lesions or other soft
tissues.
Once the set is in place, the clinician may use the cannula for a multi-purpose access channel to the site. The cannula mates with a LeVeen
CoAccess Electrode for radiofrequency ablation of the lesion. "I am particularly pleased with this latest event," stated Gary Curtis, RadioTherapeutics president and CEO. "It demonstrates RadioTherapeutics'
closeness to clinicians and sensitivity to their needs. In
addition, the fact that this is the third significant product launched in such a short time frame demonstrates our expertise in rapid product development."
RadioTherapeutics is a privately held company focused on the
development of cost-effective, minimally invasive products that help surgeons, radiologists and other interventional physicians manage cancers not amenable to surgical resection and/or chemotherapy. The company has
FDA clearance for its new LeVeen CoAccess Electrode System, as well as for currently marketed LeVeen Needle Electrodes and RF 2000/3000 Generators for the general ablation of unwanted or diseased soft tissue, and for specific
ablation of non-resectable lesions of the liver. RadioTherapeutics markets its products to the U.S. surgical market through its direct sales force, to
the U.S. radiology market and to Japan through its marketing partner, Boston Scientific Corporation, and in numerous countries worldwide through local distributors.
