Date Posted: 19:19:31 07/16/04 Fri Maricel’s delighted by FAP honor MARICEL Soriano was not expecting an award when she went to grace the recently-concluded Film Academy of the Philippines Awards Night held at the CCP over the weekend. “I was there to lend my support to KAPP and Albert Martinez who painstakingly put together that unique experience. And I was truly happy I came. Their effort really paid off. It was a truly memorable evening, that is over and above my winning the best actress trophy,” she said to that effect. She was just having the time of her life catching up with some of her colleagues and friends that night when her name was finally called in the best actress category for her magnificent performance in Viva Films’ Filipinas (which has already won for her the best actress plum during last December’s Metro Manila Film Festival). “It was a rare chance seeing our colleagues and friends in the business gather together like that, kaya nakikipagkwentuhan ako sa kanila. Nakikipag-kumustahan, kaya nung tinawag ako, they had to tell me na ako na pala. Nanalo na pala ako,” she said. Maricel admits she was nervous on her way to the podium. She didn’t have any idea what to say in her speech. “But I prayed and asked the Lord to guide me and the speech turned out okay. I thanked Him of course, foremostly, then the award giving body, my co-stars in the film, my producer and my director I also thanked all my friends and supporters who continuously love me all these years. I’d like to believe that I was able to say everything I had to say that night. I was really happy,” the woman who knows her life to be a shower blessings from God said. The beautiful Maria who looked radiant in her Inno Sotto baby pink terno, was escorted by her eldest son Marron whose outfit was also by Inno. Marron’s two month-vacation from his military schooling in California is coming to an end this month. He leaves again on the first week of August. “I was in a table with Marron and my niece Meryll Soriano during the awards night. It felt good to be with my son. He enjoyed it. Tien had to stay home. He has classes early the next day, he couldn’t afford to stay up late. He has to be asleep by 8 p.m.,” the doting mother said Maricel has practically won in every award-winning body in the country. Proof of it is her long line of trophies totaling to about 15 citations, in the entire span of her acting career. “But I have not won in Urian, not once,” she said with a smile adding, “it would be nice to look forward to that in the future.
