Hi,
I was a teacher's assistant in English as a second language class in California. In my class I had three kids with dyslexia. I have worked with them for two years and was able to help them immensely. Now I want to pursue my career in special education, focusing on dyslexia. Mostly the kids in my class were from oriental countries and new in the USA, so language was a major barrier especially with the three kids. I have to come up with new ideas all the time. One kid was really good in origami so I told him to teach it to the rest of the class, which helped boast his confidence. All three of the kids loved to play with Lego, so while teaching them math I used Lego, which made math interesting for them. Later I started using colors to differentiate between the words for example red for difficult word and green for the words they had already learnt. This made learning fun for them. I hope this will give you some ideas about being innovative in special situations.
Farah
