This is a deleted excerpt that I got rid of a loooong time ago. This is what happens when I'm trying to 'force' myself to write when I'm not in the mood, and force the story in a certain direction at the same time. Hehehe! It takes place on the rooftop of the old abanoned building right after Justin and Gyro have their run in with the police officers. As you can see, Justin's secret was originally going to be revealed MUCH earlier than it eventually was in the series....

He backed away from me a bit more, just not understanding why I was trying to hide this so desperately. "I think, maybe, you should give me a little bit more info about you. Because right now I really don't understand what it is you need to hide from us."

"I can't...don't you understand? I'm supposed to keep a low profile..."

"Says who?" He asked, and I held my tongue. But my silence only made him all the more determined. "Says who, Justin?"

"Look, can we just drop this?"

"No." He said it with such a parental tone that I realized he wasn't going to let me walk away from this without coming clean. "Who told you to keep a low profile, Justin." I felt the words bubbling up inside me, the secret litterally aching to be told. And I found myself hoplessly stuck between the safety of not saying anything, and the freedom of having it come out in the open at last...even if only to one person. So, with great hesitation, I closed my eyes...and I spoke.

"I went to see Tim, and he examined me...he found....something a bit abnormal about my extra."

"Abnormal, like how?"

I felt a tear drip from my right eye, but I didn't want to bite my tongue for a second longer. "He told me....I'm a Mimic, Gyro."

It didn't look like he was buying it at first. "What are you talking about? Dude, I think somebody is playing with your head. You CAN'T be a Mimic, Justin. There hasn't been a Mimic born into darkness for like..."

"...Six hundred years..." I finished his sentence, and although he was absorbing it little by little, he still appeared to be trying to laugh it off as though it were some kind of joke.

"Ok...come on, you're just fucking with me, right? I mean, if you were a Mimic, then that would be like a huge vampire prophecy or something. You'd practically be the key determining factor in finding the path to the Vampire Dawn. Hehehe, I mean, c'mon...it's ridiculous. Right?" He looked at me, giggling nervously, but I didn't say anything. "Right?"

"I can't say that it's some big prophecy or anything, all I know is what Tim told me."

"Well...I mean...maybe he's wrong. Maybe he got your extra mixed with somebody elses..." But I shook my head to let him know that I was telling the truth. It was at that moment, that it sunk in. "Oh...my...God...Omigod....Omigod..." Was all he could say. He stared at me with his eyes as wide and full as the moon itself. "Holy shit...this is SO not happening!"

"I'm so confused, Gyro. I'm lost."

"I don't...I'm not sure exactly...what to...SAY...to you. Uhh...wow...this is like, way too weird."

"I don't even know why I'm here or what it is I'm supposed to DO! I'm just...cursed with this thing and I have no idea whether it's a good thing or a bad thing or..."

"GOOD THING!" He shouted out. "Verrrry GOOD thing! Believe me on this one, k?" He paused, pacing back and forth and not knowing what to do with himself. "Um...ok...who else knows about this?"

"Tim...Char...Becca...Comicality...I think that's it."

"WHOAH...back up? Did you say Comicality?" If I didn't think his eyes could get any wider, he would have just proved me wrong.

"Yeah..."

"Jesus! You actually...I mean...you..."

"He found me. He said he'd come for me again."

"You know...for a rookie, you have a very interesting list of experiences to your credit." It was strange, I don't think I had ever seen Gyro worried before. "Ok...Bryson told me that you went out on a hunt, and that you fed for the first time. Right?"

"Yeah."

"Ok, how long ago was that?"

"Not long, I guess a little before you got here." I answered.

"Shit, then we don't have much time. Your abilities are going to start shootin out of you in every direction sometime soon, whether you like it or not."

"Wait, what happened to the extras being all about focus and control and knowing myself...?"

"Not for Mimics my friend. This is a VERY different situation indeed. YOUR extra is one thing, but absorbing the extras of every living vampire you come into contact with is a whole other ballgame. You've got to be trained to meditate...focus...I dunno something. Otherwise, you're going to start sucking up extras faster than you know what to do with them. It'll get out of control."

I started to feel a pinch of panic set in. "I didn't know! Tim didn't say anything about all that!"

"Tim was probably trying to keep you calm so that you didn't start using other people's extras in anger. It can be difficult to control the power and intensity of these things if you're not the vampire that was meant to have them." Gyro's pacing was driving me crazy now, and that alone was killing me.

This section was a short conversation betwen Justin and Trevor while they were out in the park for Justin's first hunt. I don't remember why I removed it, actually. I think it was just leading their conversation in a different direction and I wanted them to stay focused on the task at hand. Weird...

"I have to ask, it'll kill me if I don't." Trevore said. "But why did you choose this life over your own? What made you give up the fantasy and come into our world?"

"Maybe I just had enough of the bullshit." I
said, still keeping my emotional distance from him.

"There's plenty more where that came from. Our society is just as screwed up as anyone elses, Justin. Sure we had good intentions and had the means to grow and learn and prosper forever. But people ruin it. The more our race grows, the more ideas and prejudices that seep into it, the more corrupt the our existence becomes. We have to live by rules too, and as long as there are rules, there are people who are living just to bend, break, and challenge those rules. All in all...we're no better than they are. Just different."

I looked over at Trevor and asked, "But why? Why can't people just get along and stop with all of this stupid bickering and controlling people and idiotic little..."

"Because of power Justin. Everyone wants it, nobody has it. Everybody is looking for a reason to be better than the person next to them. People are either on top, or they're jealous of the people who are. It's a constant war with no winners. Only losers. It's funny to watch when you really take a good look at it."

"How so?" I asked.

"Because it's all a game. All of it. I look at the city sometimes, and I see a bunch of oversized children, playing the same games that they did in high school. You meet the same people, no matter how old you get. The bullies, the geeks, the jocks, the sluts, the overachievers, and the assholes. Nothing changes. They just get bigger, older, and make more money. But it's basically high school all over again. People playing 'house', trying to act like they're important in a world that they made up in their minds. They're not important. They die tomorrow, people cry, a few weeks later, life goes on. So what? Do you think that life would cease to exist if you were to slit your wrists tomorrow? No. Six billion more where you came from. Everybody wants to be Jesus Christ and pretend that their existence is the end all be all of the universe. It's not! It's something that you have to let go of, Justin. These people are no better than you are. Not your parents, not your boss, not your teachers, not the Pope...nobody. They ALL needed their diapers changed at one time in their lives. And having a 'title' doesn't change that."

"I thought you said you had a surprise for me." I said, changing the subject. He looked at me for a second, noticing my reluctance to listen, but he let it go.

"Whether you hate me or love me won't make a bit of difference Justin. You can see, or you can shut your eyes. Your choice."

This was just a short exchange of words between Justin and Chad shortly after he had finally caught up to him. It was leading into a much longer conversation that I decided to save until later. It was to be the beginning of Justin's knowledge of 'prophecy' and fate...and would eventually lead towards the preparation for the horrific days ahead. Once I started writing it, it 'felt' wrong to me. So I saved the discussion for later...

I asked him, "I heard someone refer to you as one of the 'Chosen'...and I've been meaning to ask. Chosen for what, exactly?"

Chad merely shrugged his shoulders. "I asked Com the same thing once. You know what he told me?"

"What?"

"Not to ask. He said I'd know my destiny when I crossed it's path, and not a moment sooner. I'm sure, in some screwed up way, he expected that to make me feel better." Chad said.

"So you have no idea then?"

"None at all. It's all some kinda weird monkey business with the scriptures and the call of the chosen ones to bring out the vampire dawn."

"The vampire what?" I said, confused.

"The...the dawn! Aw shit, don't you know anything, dude?"

There are PLENTY of little pieces that I cut out of "GFD", and I'm saving them for the "Re-VAMPed" edition, once the whole story is finished! So don't think that I'm just erasing them! A majority of the stuff I write...I keep. Just in case I need to use it later!
