Subject: A little note on grammar and some commonly misused words

I admire your courage in starting this topic MB. Nobody likes their spelling or grammatical errors pointed out, but I agree it does make the story much easier to read if the correct form of the 'soundalike' word is used in its proper place.

Other commonly misused words to add to the list:

You're and Your
You're is a conjunction of you and are, if you can use it out of its conjunction as "you are", then you can add the apostrophe and take out that pesky A.
Example: You're very good looking.
Your is used to indicate possession, such as "your story is awesome", or "your hair smells like vanilla"

Its and it's
"Its" is a possessive pronoun. Its interpretation is something like "that which belongs to it", where "it" stands for some previously defined object. In the previous sentence, the object being referred to is the word "its", and the thing that belongs to it is its interpretation.
Examples:He left it dead, and with its head he went galumphing back. Love rears its ugly head.

"It's" is a contraction. It is short for "it is" (or occasionally for "it has"). It's not a way to ascribe a property to some "it". Yes, I know that this would make sense given that the general rule for forming a possessive is to tack on "'s": fool's errand, brewer's yeast, horse's ass. "It's" is an exception to this rule, and I honestly apologise on behalf of the infuriating English language!
Examples: It's so nice to see you again. I can't believe it's your birthday already.

Apologies, I just couldn't resist the last item MB, but you knew somebody was going to find a grammatical error in your post, didn't you? :-)). Now.....is the answer to that:
(a) I could care less, or
(b) I couldn't care less?
(Probably depends on which side of the Atlantic/Pacific you live!)
