Honestly, I never really thought about it one way or the other. Usually when I'm writing, it just sorta....comes out like that. Mostly because I'm writing in the first person perspective of a teenager most of the time. So I just write it the way that I speak normally, like...as though this boy was actually sitting down and telling you this story face to face. So a lot of things, I guess, get blurred when someone is speaking and you don't think about it...as opposed to actually reading it on the page where the mechanics are clearly visible, you know?
Hehehe, I won't even promise ya that I'll straighten up that little glitch in the writing, hahaha! But it's just because I'm usually typing with a certain rhytmic, conversational, 'flow', and there are a lot of stumbling blocks that I COULD think about and straighten out...but just don't because it completely pulls me out of the moment, and the emotion gets lost.
Examples?
- "All of the sudden" or "All of a sudden."
- "A hundred percent" or "One hundred percent."
- "100 Miles an hour" or "100 Miles per hour."
- "I got used to it" or "I got use to it."
- "Whoever it is" or "Whomever it is."
Etc, etc. Nine times out of ten...I'll be thinking at the speed of light, and trying to get my lame typing ability to keep up with my thought processes, and I'll just put down whatever I'm thinking for that particular split second. I won't even catch it in editing. Sorry, hardcore mechanics make me stumble when I'm writing, the rhythm is everything.
But for what it's worth, I now know that it's an issue. I didn't before. So thanks for that. (Good research too, MB)
