I never expected to start some controversy, let alone a controversy to take away from Coms writing or stories.
For myself as a "northerner" I've always heard "all of a sudden". Phonetically it sounds more fluid to me personally. Perhaps that is why I prefer it.
Thanks to MB, I wouldn't have even thought there was an alternative. Quite the research dig there!
I wasn't disrespecting Comsie, or his writing. Like many of you, I am one of his biggest fans. Aren't we all!
Do I wish I could write like him? You bet! Do I wish I could type fast enough to get down enough of a train of thought to make it into a story? Damn right!
Do I wish I could create these worlds in flowing text as he does? I could only wish!
That's why it isn't my name on any stories here. I am a fan. I am a different sort of artist, I work with images, photography, a brush stroke, pen, ink ... I create and craft my art visually.
I can be verbose, however I'll save that for someone who has a tale to tell. There are several of you here, posting your stories, which I also admire.
For what it's worth, I realized we all critique one way or another, not meaning harm by our comments. It was my personal pet peeve as it interrupted the flow I am used to while reading and greatly deriving enjoyment. I wasn't looking to start a who's right/wrong debate. Personal preference, as in which pen I prefer to write with. The word "the" just doesn't make sense to me in the slang usage of "all of a sudden".
