Yeah, despite the good intentions of his friends to "help him out" I personally didn't think much of the gesture either. Not so much them introducing him to Niles, who seems like a great match, but the secretive behavior and such. Everybody at the table knew what was going on except the protagonist. I personally would feel betrayed were that me. I'd much rather people communicated with me honestly instead of doing things behind my back. Good intentions or not.
