i would take it out of the pot, cut off the leaves and clean off the roots.. you should wash the remaining plant top with soapy water.. now plant it in a new pot with a well draining soil.. put it in a south facing, sunny window.. place it on a pan of pebbles kept full of water for humidity around the banana plant, but you don't want the pot sitting in the water.. in fact, after the initial watering, don't water again till you see new growth.. then, for the winter period, only water when the top couple of inches of the potting soil is dry.. you can move it out on the patio if you want to whenever the temperatures rise above 55 or 60 degrees Fahrenheit, but if you do that, bring it back in before it drops below those temperatures.. myself, i'd just leave it in the sunny window till next year..
