1.Just because I have cervical dysplasia, does that absolutely mean that without a doubt I have HPV?

I feel pretty save in saying that 99.9% of women with cervical dysplasia have HPV.

2.Wouldn't they have specifically told me if I had HPV so that my husband could be tested?

I would think your doctor would have told you that you have HPV, some doctor assume we know more about cervical dysplasia than we do. There is no HPV test for the male. Many times a male carries the infection with no outward signs. However that said it is generally a good idea to have your hubby checked to make sure there are no small flat warts that could be treated…using condoms will help provide more protection to your cervix and may help your virus regress. You may also ask for a copy of your pathology report it will reference HPV.

3.Would they offer me cryotherapy without telling me I have HPV and having my husband tested? (wouldn't he just reinfect me?

Once you and your husband share your HPV types you do no ping pong the virus…you can transmit the virus to tissue no yet having the virus….once the body builds a natural immunity to the virus…the virus will usually regress…where it is not seen in any test and will not cause problems…your infection may reactivate years down the road due to illness or immune problems but it may stay in a inactive mode forever more.

4.Would they have let me go on to have a normal vaginal birth if I had HPV?
Yes

5.Would HPV cause any problems in my baby, like a bleed in the brain? (my son did have this and that is why I am asking)
No…in some rare cases low risk HPV types can be transferred to a child and affect the larynx to learn more about this www.rrpf.org. There have also been cases where infants have had genital warts. You can find this article in medscape.

Thanks so much. I know this is long, but everything I read on dysplasia has HPV HPV in big bold letters as the cause, but is it the only true cause?

Pretty much so…cervical dsplasia is pre-cancer cells of the cervix…99.9% of all cervical cancer is due to HPV.

I would probably opt for cryo surgery....after a second abnormal Pap or try to do the little things that may help your virus regress...use condoms...(until two clear Paps) no tampon, eat your greens, get good sleep, reduce stress...
