Hi Samantha...visible warts are low risk HPV types generally 6 or 11. These types are not seen in cervical cancer.

Your virus was on the vulva...most likely your cervix also carry the infection but low risk HPV types seem to regress fast. Our HPV test looks for high risk HPV types.

Your Pap did not find an abnormal cell changes...so an HPV test is not always done. An HPV test is usually run after abnormal cells are found.

If you are over 30 you should have an HPV. This test should be run regardless of what your Pap smear finds. We are seeing where a Pap is good but it often misses cells.

Be diligent with your Pap smear, if abnormal cell changes are missed on year..then the next year the smear will probably find them. If you are over 30 I will hope that the clinic you go to will do this test for you.
