Tess & The Terrific Trio
Welcome
Back to Tess & The Terrific Trio

Encouragement -- Scott (Joyful), 12:41:30 06/04/08 Wed [1]

In Ecclesiastes 4 verse 12: Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves, a cord of three strands is not easily broken...

It is a passage about the meaningless of life: being born, growing up, working and dying. But add God to your strands, guys. You will always have a unique bond as siblings, but how much stronger with God as your Quad (Cool rhyme, eh, Charles?) Long life to you, may you continue to bless your mom and dad.

wow! -- Faye Dunachie (amazed), 16:44:30 12/02/07 Sun [1]

I honestly don't know what to say - I'm amazed at the strength you have all had....

I sincerely wish you all the best!!

A little Scottish blessing for you all:

May the best you've ever seen
Be the worst you'll ever see;
May a moose ne'er leave yer girnal
Wi' a teardrop in his e'e.
May ye aye keep hale and hearty
Till ye're auld enough tae dee,
May ye aye be just as happy
As I wish ye aye tae be.

(May the best you've ever seen
Be the worst you'll ever see;
May a mouse never leave your kitchen,
With a teardrop in his eye.
May you always keep whole and hearty
Till you're old enough to die,
May you always be just as happy
As I wish you always to be.)

Congratulations and best wishes from Scotland

Seeing the pictures of your angels getting better is great. I was three and a half months early and weight 2 pounds 14 oz. I spent the first three months of my life in the NICU. This was back in the early 1970s. They have changed quite a bit since then. I will pray for your family and may God give you strengh.

Tess & Charles, I just noticed your website, and read the account of your experiences in 2004. I was amazed by your constant positive attitude throughout the ordeal, and I can't begin to tell you how glad I was when I got to the end, and they were all home & safe. I don't know how I would have found the strength you both showed.

Take care,

Jamie

Asking a favor -- Natalie fr. Pittsburgh, PA, 11:47:39 07/06/05 Wed [1]

Tess,
I was pg w/ our youngest (we have 3 children) while your little ones were in the nicu. I read your posts daily. If I could ask a favor of you, and anyone else who is willing - can you say a prayer for our little Meghan. She has a heart murmur. It is causing her heart to enlarge and is building up fluid. She has to be on lasix now to keep the fluid down. Next month, they want to schedule her for surgery to correct the murmur. I am so scared I do not know what to do. I cannot imagine what you went through with your 3 little ones. I am so scared to lose our baby. I am just praying she comes out of this ok. She is such a vibrant little baby. You would never know she has a problem. She zooms around the house faster than our dogs chasing after me, her dad or her brother or sister. If you guys could say some prayers for her, this mommy in Pittsburgh would be most grateful.

My wrenching heart. -- Sheena Gates, 07:08:04 10/21/04 Thu [1]

Dear Charles, Tess, Carys, Sebastian, Sela & Jasper...

I have read your webpage from top to bottom and clicked on most of the links too and I just wanted to let you know how proud all of you are for being such a fantastic, inspirational and loving family.

I found this site through Tertia, one of my friends from South Africa, who I believe you know aswell. In April this year I lost my daughter Kiera due to pneumonia, but she was too born at 26w4d!!! She lived for 7 months and made me proud of her more and more each day. I brought Kiera home on oxygen too. Reading your story has made me laugh, gasp, cry and smile as I remember going through almost everything you mention.

God bless you all and I hope your lovely children (all four of them) give you lots and lots of grey hairs in the most gratifying and blessed way possible.

All my love, thoughts and prayers with you,

Sheena

News Flash for the Terrific Trio , Sebastian , and of course the fantatsic parents of these children. As of today, I do believe it is only 93 more days until we get to see you all! I will try to stay calm for the next 3 months , but I cant promise as I am so excited at the thought of finally being able to see you all again ( and some for the first time).

Sleeping angels -- Auntie Pammie, 05:19:49 06/17/04 Thu [1]

Good Morning / evening babies!
I agree with your Auntie Carolyn that you 3 should continue on your trek of sleeping through the nights. I was quite impressed when I heard that you all had slept through the night. Your Big brother Sebastian was good at doing that at a young age also.

Mozzie will be there to see you 3, and give you lots of extra hugs and kisses and love that she will be bringing with her from all of us in Canada ( and around the world) for her to share. Only 10 more days babies!

Auntie has to go to work now, Love to you all xoxo

Sleeping -- Auntie Carolyn, 03:46:44 06/17/04 Thu [1]

Good Morning Angels, Auntie Carolyn here with a little message for tonight. Sleep, sleep, sleep. I'm heading for breakfast which means you are working on supper. Fill up both legs each and save a little more to make sure you get right through 'til morning tea time. I heard from Mom that you have done this at least once, why not make it a regular thing? Big bro' has lots of practise and I'm sure recommends the sleep over midnight marauding.
Ciao for now, love to all, Auntie Carolyn

Try to be easy on Mom and Dad and no ganging up with Sebastian to give the parents grief. Hopefully it will be quite a little time yet before you realize that you will have way more fun getting into trouble together with Seb than any of you will individually. Take care. Love to all the six pack, Auntie Carolyn

Thank You -- Jennifer in Winnipeg, 08:47:04 06/13/04 Sun [1]

Thank you so much for that wonderful update. I can't imagine where you even found the time for that. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 7 month old and I barely can find the time to post this. LOL

Again, you don't know me but I pray for your entire family daily. Keep up the growing kiddos.

Think about this! -- Jennifer Cheung, 08:32:09 06/09/04 Wed [3]

I have been thinking about how you all are doing and while I'm sure people know that you are busy I had a think about how really busy you are. I have a 2yr old and an 8mths old and somedays I do not know which way is up so this is what I calculated.
If you alot 15 mins per feed and 3 mins for a nappy change and 10 mins for a settling cuddle at 8 feeds per day for three babies that comes to 11.2 hours. Add a bath for the trio at 15 mins per baby and a baby massage(good for the growth). That's over twelve hours to keep them going.
Add a demanding toddler to the equation with one bath , three meals, 2 snacks,a trip to the park, 2 pictures drawn and 6 books read plus bath and 15 mins to clean your favourite Clinique lipstick off the wall. Don't talk about meals , washing , shopping ,visitors and wellwishers. Also when you gaze across the room and realise that person over there with the nappy over their shoulder is your wonderful valued husband/wife but all you can say is" oh my goodness did you pay the phone bill?"
You guys are doing an incredible job. While I'm sure you have lots of help there is no substitute for Mum and Dad as my two year old says frequently "Mummy do it".You guys give me perspective on my busy days.I am tired just thinking about it.
We are so happy to hear you hear that Jasper, Sela and Carys have made it home and the way they have progressed is fantastic. Also a thank you to the Aunty that has kept us up to date and reassured us that your doing O.K.
Keep up the good work. We are thinking of you and yours. Best wishes and prayers for a smooth ride.

[> [> Caldwell Connection -- Jennifer Cheung, 17:58:28 06/12/04 Sat [1]

Dear Carolyn,
My Mother in law lives in Melbourne at the moment but said she will have a look in the family records and bring them to Sydney next time she is here. What she could tell me is that we have traced back to Scotland and her father was cousins with the Caldwell Family that produced towels in Canada. She said that she knows they have shut down because she lived in London ,Canada for the year 1997 (my sister in law is a paediatric neurosurgeon and trained there). Grandma is 80 years old and sharp as a tack. I'm sure she'll find out some more for me.
Best Wishes
Jenny Cheung

Off the record update -- Auntie Pammie, 05:15:31 06/09/04 Wed [1]

Hello to one and all, I spoke to the mother of the terrific trio ( and Sebbie ), all babes are doing well. Jasper's latest ROP exam was status quo as was Carys's. No progression, so that is good news. Jasper is quite the contented little man and is filling out nicely. Sela remains to be the smiling, pretty little girl who is a dream to look after. Little Carys is doing well, she has a small cough at this time , but remains to be a very observant little girl ( I feel that she will be like Sebastian, the silent observer/thinker type).
Both parents have colds( have been ill) , and are tired beyond imagination, but are continuing to be thrilled with the new additions.

Sebastian "assists" in the diaper changes and occasional bottle feeds. He is filling in his role of big brother with the greatest of ease.

I am trying to be patient re: new pics of babes,, they will be posted when they have 2 free minutes of time......
all in all, things are coming along nicely.

Auntie Pammie

Baby photos! -- Karen Ritchey, 07:48:36 06/07/04 Mon [1]

Hello Tess and Charles, Seb, and triplets extrodinaire!

Each morning, I anxiously arrive at my home page of the Caldwell's hoping to see a new update...often I am so pleasantly surprised, and often I find that I need to learn to wait patiently!
These little ones have become such a big part of my prayer life and my thoughts, that it is hard to wean myself from the regular updates!
You must all be so busy adjusting to a new and exciting routine, I do try to imagine it all, and can't fathom it really!

I love you all, and will continue to wait, knowing that one of these times when I plant myself in front of my computer...alas! there will be more news and photos to feast my eyes on and to feel the warm fuzzies for these amazing gifts that God has brought so far already!

Hugs and Love,

Congrats!!! -- Lisa, UK, 13:00:04 06/03/04 Thu [1]

Wonderful to read about the progress of the Terrific Trio, who were born 2 days before my twins (9 weeks premature). My DD has been home with us for two and half months, and, following an op for an inguinal hernia this morning, we hope my DS will be home next week (on oxygen). Your story really resonates with me and it's great to hear you're all doing so well now. Lisa x

I sit here with tears of joy streaming down my face at your update. I can not even begin to tell you how happy I am for all of you. I can not think of a better testimony to God's healing powers than the story of the Terrific Trio! It proves that miracles really do happen. The pictures of the babies are so beautiful. They are getting bigger by the minute. I imagine Sebastian is having a wonderful time with his brother and sister home. Now that little Carys has shifted into overdrive it won't be long until they are all home with him.I also want to thank you both again for sharing such an incredible and reaffirming journey with all of the world.

Carys!! you have cheeks :-) -- Auntie Pammie, 16:05:04 05/23/04 Sun [1]

I got home from work today and thought( and secretly hoped ) there would be an Update on my favorite 3 little people. As the website downloaded, I was suddenly looking at a tiny little girl that has cheeks! It was like the puzzle's final few parts are being put into place after 3 long months!

Seeing the pictures of all the babes in their respective poses( Jasper , love the dump-truck shot and Sela , I gather you are being the well behaved one); is a gift I am so grateful for.

I cannot wait until this fall when I will be flying over and spending some time with you 3 little miracles. I will have to inspect the mini-fat rolls and kiss some chubby little cheeks while there.

Keep up the good work you 3, and enjoy getting to know your older brother Sebastian, and your Mommy and Daddy , and I had better mention Olivia ( the cat) also.
Love , hugs and kisses to you all!
Auntie Pammie xoxo

Hey Carys, what about the aspergillosis? -- Michelle from Sedgewick, AB, 18:50:46 05/22/04 Sat [1]

Carys, I am sure everyone around the world is wondering what happened to the infection in your lung. You seem determined to completely ignore it, and I applaud you! Carry on growing. We'll carry on praying.
Sweetie, you grow up and tell everybody all about the big guy who is keeping you safe, OK? Lots of people don't know who He is, and they need to.
Hang in there, honey. Soon you'll have Sebastian, Jasper and Sela making you cry instead of doctors and nurses. (Have fun, Mom and Dad!)

Week 38 -- Auntie Carolyn, 17:40:36 05/18/04 Tue [1]

Good Morning Angels,
Nice work on the weight gain. You three are making great progress. I wish I could accomplish the same in reverse with the efficiency of the three of you. Congratulations Sela on your trip home. Is Dad making KD for you? Jasper, hang in there buddy, I'm sure you'll be back home soon enough. Carys, sounds like you are the sensible one of the bunch. Slow and steady does the trick, eh?

Please let big, brother Sebastian know that Galen loves watching the video of him on his bike. He insisted on watching it over, and over, and over, and over again. And then wanted to see it again. Every time he sees Seb with the bike he says " Put your helmet on!" You see he got an early birthday present of a yellow and blue model and keeps talking about how he "rides like S'bast'n".

Please give Mom and Dad big hugs and kisses for us. Sounds like they need more KD, red licorice, and white wine. Fabulous update, very much appreciated.

Love to all, Auntie Carolyn

mini-update to tide everyone over -- Auntie Pammie, 04:16:06 05/18/04 Tue [1]

Sela has been home for 2or 3 days, and is doing very well. I was fotunate enough to listen to her doing her cute little squeaks and other sounds on the phone last night. From what I can tell , she is a very content young lady. Jasper is closing in the gap and should be home quite soon, and the mini warrior Carys is still getting stronger and is working her way towards the finish line. Charles has been out of town on business for the last week and this is why the website has had a small lag in it for the last few days. Thats all I have for now!

Triplets enjoy HK's night life -- Graeme, 09:01:11 05/05/04 Wed [1]

Chin Fung Chow, owner of Night Vibes in Lan Kwai Fung, HK became suspicious when he noticed one of his waitresses attaching rubber nipples to 3 Heinekens. He watched in amazement as she brought the beers to a rowdy table of what appeared to be the cutest "guilo" midgets he had ever seen. "See you in the NICU!" the three bellowed before chugging the frosty brews in just under 15 minutes. (You try chugging with a rubber nipple) Mr. Chow approached the three to ask what they were celebrating. Carys yelled "The gigs up!!!!" What happened in the moments after this are unclear as Mr. Chow did his best to explain. "One of the little guys threw a small blanket over my eyes" Chow said. "Then I felt six mini hands fumbling in my pockets" By the time he removed the blanket the culprits had fled the bar. "I was impressed with the tip they left on their $2,500HK bill until I realized my wallet was gone". Police are looking for 3 very small cute white midgets in doll clothes.

Finally !! -- Auntie Pammie, 16:42:01 05/04/04 Tue [1]

I had no computer access for 2 whole days, by this I mean I was unable to see the videos. It was to the point where I was going to invite myself over to friend's homes just to use their computers to see the babes. THE WAIT WAS WORTH IT! My we have grown and are doing incredibly well.

I can somedays see resemblances between all the babes, other days they take turns looking like each other, I CANNOT wait to see you 6, and especially you 3 in person to inspect each little fat fold and crevice. You 3 are looking so much bigger and stronger now, Keep up the good work and you will be home sooner than you know it.

Your Big Brother Sebastian will be more than happy to teach you all the good and bad things that an older sibling is inclined to do.

Love Auntie Pammie xoxo

Road Rage? -- Auntie Carolyn, 12:22:19 05/03/04 Mon [1]

Hey there Angels,
Did I detect a little road rage there in the NICU? Jasper heading off to the land of Independence and Sela feeling left behind. Caution: Professional drivers, results not typical - do not try this at home. Well done Jax; your turn will come Sela. Carys, looks like you're the calm, cool one. See if you can keep the others in line will you? It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.

As for To: the Forsythia, Magnolias, Tulips, Daffodils are all in bloom. The roses have been cut back and some even uncovered. They are waiting for warmer weather which eludes us this week. We had a perfect Vancouver weekend for Auntie Carolyn's 10k sojourn down Yonge St with 7000 of her nearest and dearest running friends. Driving rain by Queen St. Still haven't lost an ounce - unlike Jax and Sela. (Give me a break!)

Speaking of road etiquette, we will keep Seb's wheels a secret from Super G - he will be wanting to race him down the back stretch when he finds out cousin Seb has wheels.

Love to you all and prayers for continued good health. Hugs and kisses to Mom, Dad and Seb. Ciao, Auntie Carolyn

Just more well wishes -- Alex Johnson (Shayna's mom), 08:32:21 05/03/04 Mon [1]

We met at the top of Mt. Victoria. I think of the babies each day and missed them while I was at a convention for a couple of weeks. Every time I hold my grandson Aidan I marvel that the trips put together are not as big as he is. But I think that someday they will all catch up. Best wishes to you all.

Independent Boys -- Auntie Carolyn, 15:05:34 04/28/04 Wed [1]

Jasper way to go buddy! You are on your way to that delightful land of independence - a place that will drive Mom and Dad completely crazy with joy and frustration all at the same time. Wait 'til I tell cousin Galen the good news. Independence is his favourite place these days. Have a wee chat with the ladies and encourage them to join you now that you have had a little taste of independence's sweetness. If necesary co-op big bro Seb to the project. He knows all about it. He can ride a tricycle you know. You might want to give little miss Carys a special talking to since she might need a little extra encouragement.

All six of you continue to make us very, very proud - eh Auntie Pam? I can feel those pudgie tummies already.

Love to you all, Auntie Carolyn

I was away for 5 days over the past weekend, and the first thing I did when I got home, was to check on the progress of you three amazing children. What a treat to see new photos and to see your family photo. You have stolen my heart. Thank you for the determination and the strength that you display to us each day...it is such an encouragement to us all. May God continue to hold you close as you journey through each day.

Checking in on the little ducklings... -- Isabel in San Francisco, 07:34:35 04/28/04 Wed [1]

Oh, little ducklings - you don't know that you've become part of my morning routine! I check in on you every day when I have my breakfast, and there you all are, swimming along nicely. I'm so proud of all of you, and your parents and your brave big brother.

But I have to confess that this morning (and being 6 months pg, I can't even blame a hangover!) I misread your update - I thought you were all continuing to learn to READ not FEED! Now, I know you're advanced for your age, but that would have really surprised me! Anyway, when you can read, you can read all these messages of love sent from around the world from people you've never heard of and will probably never meet and know that we were all pulling for you to grow into the chubby little ducklings we want to see. Keep up that feeding!

Love to you all, Isabel x

Tess, Charles, Sebastian and the Terrific Trio .... -- Peggy Fitzgerald, 22:44:29 04/27/04 Tue [1]

I still check in here every night as I go to bed to see how your darlings are coming along. I can't tell you how amazing you all look in your family picture. I remember the first day I held my three in my arms at the same time, and I couldn't believe it~ it was so wonderful. I'm sure you felt just as overwhelmed. Your three darlings have so many people pulling for them - they are so loved! Sebastian you are the best big brother to put up with all this attention to your little siblings. I am so glad to read that your mom and dad make sure you are not neglected in all this fuss. What fun you will have as you lead the pack into lots of trouble in the future!

Thinking of you - I will continue to check in daily - just wanted to say that I'm still with you pulling for your babies all the way from Seattle. BTW - how is Carys doing with her fungal infection, any news? I pray for her nightly. She has wise eyes - just like my little Claire, a fighter. I've always had a good feeling about her, she's a strong spirit. Petite, but as they say, it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog, and this little girl is a feisty one!!!!!

Much love, Peggy Fitzgerald from Seattle, a fellow triplet mom and cyber friend to Tess...

Movie in the making?? -- Graeme, 07:50:00 04/26/04 Mon [1]

More good news came with the 2 month birthday celebrations. The triplets confirmed talks have resumed with 20th Century Fox in making a fast paced, action packed flick about the trio's first months. While Sela and Carys want Mel Gibson to direct, Jasper has been meeting secretly with Quentin Tarantino behind the respirators to discuss a more cutting edge movie. Both directors have refused to comment publicly on any progress they may have made. "The Passion of the Reservoir Triplets" has a nice ring to it. More as stories come in...

Hello Auntie Carolyn,
Re: our love for inspecting the babes fat rolls. I do feel that we are at a slight advantage, as there is enough bab(ies) that we can get our fill and more of little fat rolls and crevices to keep us more than fufilled. Tess did mention that Sela is getting pudgy little rolls by her wrists, I feel that is a good place to start.

Thanksgiving!! -- Maureen - grandmother Mozzie in Yellowknife, 13:22:32 04/25/04 Sun [1]

I think we all must be feeling the same way - our hearts are overflowing with thanksgiving and joy as we view the latest update on the website. From a grandmother's perspective it is quite overwhelming - and I know Grandmother Sheena would be equally as thrilled, overjoyed and thankful if she were here.

From my vantage point I would like to thank every one of you again - from grandfathers to doting aunties and uncles, to dear family and friends alike - for your incredible ongoing love and support to Tess and Charles, the babies and Sebastian. It is so heartwarming.

I too add my thanks to our gracious Lord Jesus for the comfort and strength He has given, and continues to give, this whole family.

Blessings to one and all -
Mozzie xox

More Greetings From Downunder -- Jennifer Cheung Sydney Australia., 08:17:01 04/25/04 Sun [1]

I also have been keeping a close eye on the wonderful progress your beautiful babies have been making from week one. After hopping a link from Geobaby one day you have been on my mind every day since. Bringing a new perspective not to sweat the trivial everyday stuff and live in the moment. I visited Hong Kong last month and also saw the article in Parent magazine with Tess. The progress your beautiful babies are making is just incredible. I have shed tears for them when they were unwell and more tears at seeing you holding them as a family at this wonderful milestone. Even though your journey is not finished it is amazing how far you have come.I'm sure the love and support from your families and friends has helped along with power of prayer from around the world.I believe these babies have chosen you as their parents for a reason. Thank you so much for sharing their progress this way.We are thinking of you. Best wishes Jenny, Jack 2, Timothy 7mths and Martin

to the parents of the wonderful trio -- melissa, 00:36:08 04/25/04 Sun [1]

I have followed your story for quite some time now, and have spent sleepless nights hoping and praying that all the babies would be healthy and get to come home as soon as possible. I am so glad that they are doing so well. I read many of your well wishes and thought they have so many people praying for them, that my post would seem insignificant so I didnt post...I realize now that it is nice to know just how many people are praying and care for the little ones. I was a surrogate for a dear friend of mine and delivered her triplets less than 2 years ago and it was such a joy to see them grow, I am glad I got to experience another trio grow too!!

much love and prayers to you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!WOW!! The pictures on the site tell a story all there own.(not to say I don't look very forward to the written updates) Your family is an amazing family, God has certainly led you all down a very precarious path, I'm certain that he has kept these babes and the rest of the family safe. The amazing progess the wee ones have made is evidently a testimony to the miracles our God is capable of, Praise and Glory to him. Smiling broadly -- Carrie from Melbourne, Australia, 05:48:49 04/24/04 Sat [1]

Hullo Trio and Charles and Tess,

You don't know me from a bar of soap. I have posted a message for you once before; a friend of mine from the pregnancy & beyond boards told us of you all. I am a mother/barrister/doctoral student in Melbourne, Australia. I have a little boy close to Sebastian in age named Max, and a 6-month old girl named Sascha. I have been following the progress of the Terrific Trio with great hope for you all. I was so happy to see the update of the past few days. That photo of your family of SIX, and some of the other recent pics of the trio. You are all looking wonderful. (If I may say, I think it is quite remarkable to see how great you Charles and Tess are looking, given how exhausted you must be!) All three babies are developing dear little chubby cheeks and distinct resemblances to one or other (or both) of their parents. I am so happy to see how well the babies appear to be doing; in the photos they are all three looking so thriving and happy to me. I just wanted to wish you all the very best, and I look forward eventually to seeing the news that all three babies are safely and happily at home with their Mummy and Daddy and doting big brother. :) Kind regards, Carrie Rome-Sievers
