I thought the same thing so I did some listening to Chuck Berry's versions and the DC5 version. The song as performed by Berry is loaded with innuendo delivered in a nice snappy pace highlighted by his guitar play and easy going style. The DC5 version, even though it has a wonderfully distinctive growly opening, is heavy handed with Mike over-singing and is presented more as a shout than a song. I can imagine Clark sanitizing all of the suggestive lines out of the song before 'the boys' sat down in the studio. The other Berry songs on the EPs and LP of The Dave Clark Five Play Good Old Rock 'n' Roll are better but the fun in the songs is diminished in these versions. To partially quote Weird Al Yankovic, a rock and roll song should be "loud, dumb, and pointless". I would add 'fun'.
