Good question Gina, well to start with this was back in the early days of my writing for the DC5 so what I thought was that if I used a melody that everyone knew and that was out of copywrite, the song would have a 'head start' so to speak. I cannot take credit for the idea, I 'borrowed' the idea from a hero of mine 'Buddy Holly', who took and old nursery rhyme 'Three bind mice' and turned it into 'Rock me my baby', and before him 'Glen Miller' did the same thing with 'Little brown jug', so it's not a new idea by far, and has been going on since song-writing began. After Mulberry Bush and Doo Dah had got the DC5 on British T V and noticed (and saved their recording contract), I became getting into my stride writing wise, but we all have to start somewhere, and that was my 'jumping off point'. Like I said good question!!
