Hi, this is a good discussion. I used to be in the position you are in now regarding music. The best thing to do is to pray and let God show you His truth and be willing-- this is the key-- to yield to Him.

I guess I should clarify what I mean when discussing emotions. Our faith is not based upon our natural feelings and we should not be controlled by our natural feelings. We KNOW Christ-- we who were dead in trespasses have been quickened by the Spirit of God. We are born again of God's Spirit. God does not want our emotion. God wants us to walk by faith. Our emotions can fluctuate. The emotions of the flesh He cannot use. We have a new nature and it is with this new nature that we love Him and love others. The flesh is always at war with the Spirit. It is the "New Man" that the Spirit works on. It is joy in the Holy Ghost and peace in the Holy Ghost. These flow from the Holy Spirit-- not from the old man.

1Co 1:28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
1Co 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
1Co 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
1Co 1:31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord .

Love is a fruit of the Spirit-- it is not an emotion like that of the flesh. We love God for He first loved us. In Him, we live and move and have our being. Our new man has the fruit of the Spirit and the fruit cannot be defined as "emotions"-- such as those of the flesh. I will give you an example. When someone has wronged you, your flesh will want to retaliate-- but your flesh is dead in Christ Jesus-- and you have been raised into newness of life and so the Holy Spirit who lives within you will show you how to love the person that is unlovable, as you yield to God. Only in Christ can we truly love one another and this comes by yielding to the Spirit. It is not emotional-- it is spiritual. We are joined together in Christ Jesus. We can do all things through Christ which strengthens us.

Godly music will affirm your faith and uplift your inner man without stirring your flesh. CCM Music stirs emotions-- whether it is love, sadness, etc. by using the worldly beat to arouse a connection. But God calls the Christians to be sober-minded. We are not to be tossed about with emotions, through songs that we listen to. The fruit of the Spirit is self-control. We are to remain steadfast. As Christians, emotions must never rule over us. The problem with music that arouses the flesh is that one loses his ability to reason when music takes over. It is difficult to concentrate in a room that is saturated in music-- regardless of the genre. In addition, by allowing another person's music to dominate one's day, in the flesh, one has relinquished his capacity to hear from God. The bible tells us to "Study to be quiet." in 1Thess.4:11. This cannot be obeyed in a life where rock music is constantly blasting from the CD player. It hinders your walk with God.

As well meaning as many of these CCM artists are, they cannot use worldly music to bring about the things of God. The flesh and the Spirit do not mix. We don't need to "draw" folks in to hear the Word by offering them music that will appeal to their flesh. God cannot take part in such coercion. We must remember that the Scriptures teach that the Heavenly Father draws a person and "the Lord added daily such as should be saved." If one comes to Christ, he will come GOD'S WAY..., which is the narrow way-- via the Cross of Christ Jesus. One must know he is a sinner and utterly lost -- and understand the Gospel-- that Christ is the Only Savior in order to be saved. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. One must come to God in humility. To appeal to the flesh and attract the flesh (which is proud) into a gathering place via rock music and then attempt to give him/her the preaching of the Word, they have attracted the crowd using deception. The crowd has come under false pretenses and "the gospel" is presented by dishonest means. A person being drawn by the Father does not need a rock concert to come to Him. The Lord will place a Christian in his/her pathway to give witness of the Gospel. We do not need to "dress up" the Gospel in a fancy package to make it appealing to the world...such is compromise and the end result becomes disastrous. The true Gospel message needs no improvement and true conversion cannot transpire via worldly means.

God is not looking for emotionalism among His people. He is looking to live through us. We are to surrender our will and yield to Him. We are to study to be quiet-- in a world that is filled with noise. When emotions are running high, God cannot use us. We need to be still and let Him live through us. We grow by reading the Word and by allowing Him to mold us day by day. Worship was that of prostration in the Old Testament and nowhere in the New Testament will one find dancing in the Lord mentioned. The very reason is Jesus told the woman at the well " But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth ." As Christians, we worship now in spirit and in truth. It is completely spiritual-- not in the flesh-- but our hearts are bowed into the submission to the Father's will. We are not our own for we have been bought with a price. We should not be driven by our fleshly emotions but rather we should be led by the Spirit of God. Worship in our "christian" culture has be redefined and confined to music exclusively. Music should never replace quiet time with the Lord. When the Christian is still and calm, then the Lord can speak to our hearts and guide us in His perfect will. True worship begins with a willing heart-- a yielded heart and continues with thanksgiving and praise-- We loved Him for He first loved us.

There are some-- the "CCM oldies" from the 70's and 80's-- which have a few nice songs... but even then, for every 2 songs that may be a blessing, there might be 8 songs on the album that have "the beat." Any music that arouses our flesh is not Spirit-led. Godly Christian music will speak right to the new man in Christ Jesus and will bypass completely the old man. If our flesh is being entertained, then our spirit man is not benefiting at all. This rule applies to everything in life. We grow spiritually when we are fed spiritually; our sole purpose on this earth is not to be entertained but to glorify God, being conformed to the image of Christ Jesus-- through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Rom 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
