[> You're never too old! But be forewarned that not all teachers will be willing to take you on. Find one who offers adult classes, and if you are interested in competing at any point, be sure to find out whether he/she encourages adult competitors. Many teachers offer adult classes "just for fun" but don't support the adults actually attending feisanna. Good Luck! -- adult dancer, 06:48:10 06/10/03 Tue

I know of someone who started dancing when they were 14/15ish and they are now in open Championships! (4 yrs later) I started at 14 as well and dance for fun, plus its a great workout!

Not at all! I started dancing a little over a year ago, right before my 17th birthday. I dance in my school's adult class, but I compete 15 and over, Advanced Beginner/Novice. I think it's better for me to have started later in life (well...most of the time...until I look at the 11 year old champions...sigh) because I have more coordination now than when I was 6, and I'm a lot more willing to practice and be patient. Go for it!

I'd wait till I was 18 and dance as an adult. However, in order to do this you CANNOT start lessons until you are 18. If this is too hard its ok to start before then. Dancing as an Adult in competion with 16 & overs might be ok now but when you get a little older I think you generally want to be with the more mature crowd. This is just my opinion. I know people who prefer the competition of younger dancers but then again adults are a little more mature and its easier to place as an adult.

You are absolutely not to old! I started relatively late (I was 13 and in the 8th grade) but I have loved every minute of it. I am going to be 18 soon and I do not regret starting at all. It is great exercise, fun to do, and there is a wonderful sense of accomplishment that comes along with doing a step right. I would advise calling schools in your area, saying that you are in your teens and wish to start dancing, and go from there! Good luck and happy dancing!

Hi I was 16 when I started 2 years ago and I'm already in Novice. Go for it don't let the fact that your 16 stop you from starting Irish Dance. If it's something you really want to do and really want to be committed to GO FOR IT! :) Best of luck to you and your friend.

>You are NOT TOO OLD! I felt the same as you. I began when I was 25... no that is not a typo. I am now 28 and placing high in Prilim.'s O16-O17. It can be done. Find a school and teacher who is open to working with you and commit yourself to daily practicing. Give 100% and you can achieve your goals. Good Luck to you.
