Believe it or not even the Titanic is not safe from commercial over-fishing.
While resting in it's North Atlantic grave the Titanic is once again being threatened but it is not
ice bergs this time. The Titanic sank April 14, 1912 and in 1985 Robert Ballard discovered it's resting place.
The Titanic sank 91 years ago but it is now facing a new destruction while resting at the bottom of the North Atlantic.
When discovered in 1985 most people thought that the wreck would be around for at least 50 - 100 years into the future.
Scientists have discovered that the Titanic is now being attacked by a new deterioration factor.
This factor is a cluster like rusticle and it is an iron-eating microbial which is shaped "coincidentally" like icicles.
Scientists now believe these microbes are being fueled by the drastic decline of fish within the North Atlantic.
These microbes would nomally be busy consuming marine life but since there seems to be a big lack of marine life
(because of intense ocean commercial over-fishing) these microbes now work to devour other thing such as metal
resting on the ocean floor.
This is another good reason Alaska and Canada should be allowing increased levels of fish to escape
and die within their salmon fisheries. These additional salmon carcasses have the ablity to increase our
fresh and saltwater nitrogen ratios and stimulating marine life in general. These kind of wise fisheries mangagement
decisions can help reverse destructive trends like the one which is now attacking the Titanic.
