Here is the Abe Thomas stuff!
Of special note is the "U.S." stitched in the center of the blanket in a doubled brown yarn. Measuring 4.5 by 7 inches, the letters are in the relatively uncommon Roman style with serifs as used on belt and cartridge box plates. Most extant Civil War Federal issue blankets have a US formed by 3 parallel lines of stitching, with no serifs. The yarn in the original blanket is stitched directly through the fabric in a running stitch, and shows in reverse on the back side.
