My name as you can see is Lanny Harvey and have been racing micro midgets for 34 yrs. I believe my car was the first car to win a championship race in a 4 cyl. 600. We won the Texas State Championship with Pete Frazier, Mike Gigot and several others so we were not battling a bunch of nobodies.
If everyone would go back to the rule proposals for this year, you will see the rule proposal that I put in for combining A & Multi classes with little or no teching required. Also smaller wings (10 ft.) and back to the narrow right rears so we could put the driver back in our sport instead of using the tires and wings as a crutch. My proposal was to allow any carbs/injection on any motor for these two classes up 600cc. I feel we have to standardize our sport instead of going off in all the different tangents that we seem to be doing. Keep the Restrictor class the way it is and again allow the same motor rules as A and Multi Class for the Non-Wing class.
I know that everyone wants big purses but this is not USAC or WOO or Nextel Cup. It is a small hobby class of racing that does give some people a good start towards these other types of racing. I feel we need to keep our entry fees and pit fees reasonable so we can attract all types of racers not just the high dollar boys.(Pardon me and girls.) If you want the big purses, etc. then I am probably not the one for the job as that is a job for each individual promoter. I have been pushing for temp memberships so non members can come run a race for a minimal fee.
I have been in the NMMA for 30+ years and want to see it come back so I feel we have to be progressive but in a lot of ways we need to stay the same, such as staying a family sport for those who wish it to be such. I know we have to change but not as drastically as some people think. I would like to see some of these people that put all their comments on this and other boards, step up and take part in the management of the NMMA instead of setting back and complaining about how it is run. We still have the most copied and used rules of ANYONE! Granted they are not perfect but they could be if we can get progressive board memebers. Remember, the rules voted on by the board are the very ones that the members submit. If the members want a dictatorship board then they need to submit such a rule proposal.
Enough said, if you want to vote for me, I will do my best to keep this organization running and improving.
