I totally agree, Dave. I've also been a big fan since '79 and I'm not sure if they've ever played here before or not. If they did, I missed it. In any event, I'm so glad that my wife and I got to see them this time around. (I was the guy down front wearing a brown leather jacket and black hat).

What got me the most was how tight the band was. Obviously that comes from playing a million gigs, but the way that everyone's complex parts meshed together and sounded so good really struck me in seeing them live.

I mean Doug's playing is pretty simple but it lays the foundation - and his chord changes are both classic and original enough to be unique at the same time. Sign of a great songwriter. Then you add on the non-stop riffing that Berton, Prescott, and Pat were doing... Man, it all just "fit"!!

As good as the studio albums are, the "real playing" doesn't come through like it does in a live setting. And I've been telling my friends how much better it is to see them do it live. To say I'm very impressed would be a major understatement. I mean, Prescott plays like John Entwhistle (but Ox never jumped around while doing it), and Berton is like a combination of George Harrison and (insert "rock god" name here) in a lot of ways - but x 10 - all lead, all the time. ;-) But it all "fits" perfectly...

And you know we bought the "Fun House" CD, the DVD, and a t-shirt and got stuff signed too.

I thought it was pretty funny in that it was said they'd "sign whatever you buy" and a guy and his son were in front of us in that line, and they didn't buy anything (therefore no picture or any CD to sign).

The son (about 8 yrs. old) only had his wrinkled up Earth Day "fish chart" (diagrams of fish found in the Ohio River) and wanted autographs on that. Berton and Doug were having fun deciding on which kind of fish they looked most like, so they signed next to those pics. ;-)

It was really cool to see those guys get into doing that for that kid. I'm sure lots of "big rock stars" would've turned him away just because he didn't have anything "official" to sign. Know what I mean?

All in all, my wife and I had a blast! To tell the truth, I (we) didn't even know the Knack was still together, much less touring, these days. We're definitely glad we went to that show and hope the band comes back soon. It'd be GREAT to see them in a club like Southgate House or Bogarts.

To the band - just keep it up and come back!
