I just received and viewed "Getting The Knack" DVD. What an eye opener! I've been a loyal fan of their music for years, but never knew any of the details behind their rise and fall. It seems as though everything went right leading up to their signing, and debut album. Subsequently, a series of poor management decisions, critical backlash, and a few questionable moves on the bands' part led to the "knuke the Knack" movement. It's truly a shame that Capitol was unable to right the ship. I think rock and roll, and the last two decades could have used more quality guitar pop. The interviews reveal men that although truly shafted by the industry, maintain great attitudes about playing and writing music. The Knack produces great melodies, lyrics, and hooks that are both catchy and free of cliche. They are able to back it all up with incredible live chops. It's too bad that the radio and major labels are not open to rediscovering The Knack. I'd be interested to know if anything off of "Zoom" or "Normal As The Next Guy" was pitched to radio, and if so what was the reaction.
