My father, Bill(william) Thornton came from manchester. He served in the Royal Artillery from 1940 to 1945,mostly in India/Burma. He was in a heavy anti-aircraft battery, driving a Matador towing a 3.7 HAA gun.He was at Imphal When lord Mountbatten Made his famous soapbox speech
I would like to know what unit he served with and a little bit of the regiments history. I am ex military myself having served 23 years in the REME.Many thanks in anticipation to anyone who can shed a little light on my request. mike.
