Danville could host Miss Kentucky pageant

By DAVID BROCK
dbrock@amnews.com

The pageant that launched Maria Montgomery to national recognition could be coming to her hometown this year.

Montgomery appeared along with Martha Bryant at Monday's Danville City Commission meeting to ask for support in pursuing the Miss Kentucky U.S.A. pageant.

The commission unanimously approved $2,500, which is half of the cost to rent the Norton Center for the Arts at Centre College during Thanksgiving weekend when the event is scheduled.

Bryant said pageant officials are looking at Owensboro and Danville as possible sites and that Danville has a more desirable geographical location as well as the advantage of being Montgomery's home.

"This will bring statewide recognition to Danville," Bryant said. "Owensboro is the only other community they are considering. The only expense is the facility rental, and if we can offset that cost, they will choose us."

Bryant and Montgomery will appear before Boyle County Fiscal Court today to request assistance with the remainder of the funds.

Along with the attention and the 60 contestants in both the Miss and Miss Teen divisions, Montgomery emphasized the potential for a big boost to tourism the event would attract.

"This will automatically bring in 120 contestants, but that does not include the families and cheering sections that would probably rent hotel rooms," Montgomery said. "That would be a great benefit to the hotels during Thanksgiving, which is typically a slow time. It would also increase restaurant traffic, and we would expect many of these people to return in the future after they get to spend time in Danville."

Montgomery noted that other past locations, including Somerset and Owensboro, have been asked to host the pageant multiple times.

Adam Johnson, executive director of the Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau, said he is thrilled at the opportunity and surprised at the relative ease with which Danville might secure the event.

"I am shocked that this doesn't have any kind of bid fee," Johnson said. "That makes it much more of a possibility for us. A 500-hotel-room event like this is rare, and it would be huge for the local economy."

Now that IP addresses are showing with each message posted, I did a little research, and IP address user 74.140.227.9 who is an insightbb.com customer, has been having a heyday at Kaitlynne's expense. For example, check out the archive message that says, what does Postel's FB Status Say...over twenty times that individual made comments as if they were several different people posting disparaging comments, yet in reality it was the same individual (IP address user 74.140.227.9) responding to their own post. That is not the only message thread that this user commented on. In every post where Kaitlynne was bashed, that user was posting all over it as if they were mor than one person. In addition, another IP user 74.141.99.100 (also insightbb customer) who was the orginal poster of the Facebook status message is guilty of the same actions. It is a very sad day when people can hide behind a computer screen and harrass, stalk and slander in annoymity without the fear of being exposed. However, now that the IP addresss are posted with each message, I sure do hope that Kaitlynne PRESSES CHARGES. In makes one wonder, what typre of individuals would participate in such shallow and immature actions. If it were not for the venomous nature of the post, one would almost have pity for such an example of humanity. Kaitlynne, I know you, I am sorry that such individuals exist. Be bigger, keep standing tall and respecting all. I know you will... God Bless.

cheating within the MKO
[Edit]

Not all of the judges are in on this cheating- in fact, I'm not sure if any of them are (maybe the scores are completely thrown out) but I know for a fact some of the judges are not in on the cheating.

A few years ago, one of my friends was invited to judge the Miss Kentucky pageant. After it was over, we sat down and talked about the way things turned out. She said she was absolutely SHOCKED when Kaitlynne Postel's name was called out in the top five. She said she didn't even have this young lady in her top five, and was a cusp for the top ten. She said one other judge shared the same sentiments. She said the young lady who both she AND the other judge had as a frontrunner to Miss Kentucky was not even called in the top 10. Now, the chances of those three other judges ALL picking Kaitlynne with no prior communication within the board is SLIM to NONE, especially given that two of the judges didn't even have her CLOSE to the top. Kaitlynne didn't shine or stand out above the other contestants- in fact, they put other mediocre girls in the top five so that no one would cry foul. The true competitors weren't allowed to be compared to her on finals night.

Kaitlynne was chosen because of her connections to MKO, and because she already had sponsors lined up IF she were to take over the crown (her car sponsor being one of them I can think of off the top of my head). Melanie Glasscock was in on this, as you could see from the fact that she mentioned Kaitlynne's name THREE times- once each night. That was a subtle reminder to the judges who to pick. Even if the whole thing WASN'T rigged- Melanie should have never been allowed to state a contestant's name outside of when that girl was competing or if she had won a special award. UNLESS she was going to name an interesting fact about each of the contestants.

Every year since I was told what ACTUALLY goes on behind closed doors with this board, I have been suspicious and have seen more evidence. Mallory probably could have won Miss KY on her own merit, but I guarantee you they left Sarah Billiter out of the top ten/top five so that the audience couldn't compare the two.

Jamie Breeding and the rest of the MKO are CURRUPT, and I have a mind to contact the Herald-Leader and other media outlets who would be VERY interested to investigate this organization.
