Fieger Wants Record Expunged
Last Update: 8/02 11:41 am
Attorney Geoffrey Fieger asked a federal judge to have his record expunged after being acquitted of criminal campaign finance charges in June.
The Detroit News reports that Fieger said he was recently denied entry to Canada and has had trouble practicing law in states outside of Michigan. Fieger's attorney Michael Dezsi said in a motion that the criminal indictment has caused and continues to cause stigmatization.
Fieger wants the record of the charges against him expunged and his fingerprint cards and booking photos returned.
The News reports the U.S. Attorney's Office in Detroit has not agreed to the motion, but could not be reached for comment.
In June, a federal jury acquitted Fieger and his law partner, Ven Johnson, of charges they conspired to make more than $100,000 in illegal donations to the 2004 presidential campaign of Democrat John Edwards by reimbursing the donations of employees, employee relatives and law firm vendors. Fieger was also acquitted of an obstruction of justice charge.
Dezsi said in the court filing that the FBI's National Crime Information Center database still shows Fieger as under indictment and that was the reason cited when Fieger was recently refused entry to Canada for a family vacation.
