Dateline: January 3rd 2012 - San Antonio Raceway's Freddy Cruz has been awarded the contract for the Edinburg 1/4 mile racetrack! After careful consideration of the bid packages, the City of Edinburg has sided with Cruz and they will join forces to give the Rio Grande Valley a new $200 Million dollar race facilty. Of course, this means a bond issue and it will have to go for approval of the residents of the city of Edinburg. But, I assume for now, San Antonio Raceway will take control or the track. According to sources, Edinburg International Racetrack will seaze operations immediately. I imagine Mr. Cantu and Mr. Cruz will now go into negotiations about what stays with the facility and what goes. We will keep you updated as we hear more about this........Stay Tuned!...

[> Subject: There will be no races tomorrow night (Wednesday) or Friday night. Unless the new track managers can come up with a quick plan to continue racing this week. Does anyone know if the current track employee's will be kept? I heard the new track management is going to fire everyone and start new. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

[> Subject: $200 Million???? Are we talking ZMax Drag Strip in Charlotte, N.C.? That monstrosity only cost $50 Million to build? With that price tag that will be the finest drag strip in the World! Sounds nice, but far fetched IMO. Hopefully Im wrong, but there is nothing here in the valley with that kind of construction cost, other than maybe some bridge/ interchange and highways projects and maybe an SPI hi rise. Who knows.

[> Subject: There really isn't anything to post about right now Daniel. Story in the Monitor say's Julio has 30-60 days to vacate the premises. In the mean time, Freddy will be negotiating the final contract with the city. Once that is over then they can start remodeling the racetrack and get ready for the grand opening. Freddy has big plans for the grand opening so he asks everyone to please be patient and stay tuned.

[> Subject: Cantu won the bid but they decided to award it to Cruz because throughout Cantu's ownership, the track never made any improvements. So therefore, they gave somebody else a chance.
