Subject:
"NO RACE TRACK - HOW IS THAT AFFECTING YOU?"

I have been taking A LOT of calls from racers, race fans, shop owners and business leaders asking for answers on what is going on with the Edinburg Racetrack. At this point, I really don't have answers for you guy's. The last time I spoke to Freddy Cruz he assured me that things were moving forward, plans are being drawn up and improvements should be starting soon. I really hope that is the truth because local shops are staring to feel the crunch. As if things weren't bad enough with the economy slowing down. Now no racetrack means local race shops aren't selling race parts. They aren't building race engine's. Local chassis shops aren't building race cars. And I have even heard of some race teams selling everything. Not to mention the fact that illegal street racing seems to be making a huge come back. Guess some have forgotten the tragedies of the past as a result of illegal street racing.

I know that most of our fans are drag racers at heart. But I want to remind you that there still are motorsports options in the Rio Grande Valley. The RGV Muddrags will be starting up soon in Los Fresnos. In case you need that fix for loud race engines and insane horsepower. Visit RGVMUDDRAGS.COM for their race schedule and upcoming races. There is also Road Course racing in Bayview that is open to everyone. The fee to enter is a little high at $100 per car. But I hear it is a lot of fun. Then there are always the cruises and car shows. And I also hear the local Roundy Round track is supposed to get going again in McAllen. Hope that brings some business to the local shops.

The Mod,

Hey, I'm a reporter for the Pan American, UTPA's student newspaper. We're running a story on the drag strip closing and how its affecting people, so this is a nice little coincidence. If you receive any relevant information or have any information yourself, please contact me at (956) 212-3053. My deadline is Sunday, by the way, so please contact me soon.

Thank You,

Michael Anthony Chavez
