Subject: The Rain Making Guru

On this very day (August 26th) in 1976 Guru Jagat Singh Ji set off for London from the Punjab at the invitation of the British Sikh community. The country was suffering the worst drought on record with severe water shortages affecting most of the country. It was also the hottest summer ever recorded, and the government was looking at some extreme measures to deal with the water shortage. These had included towing freshwater icebergs froom the Arctic for treatment in the UK.

The Sikh's claimed that Guru Jagat Singh Ji had a 100% record in bringing rain to drought affected areas. Naturally the press scoffed at such claims, but the Guru promised rain within four days. Just two days after the holy man started his prayers the drought was broken by a light rainfall across most of the country (not predicted by the forecasters) and the next month recorded the heaviest September rainfall for 50 years.
