One SRF monk has said it is ok to sip a bit of water as this also lubricates the throat. However some people have a very dry throat. It good to have a little dropper tubule filled with oil to place at least a drop or two to lubricate the throat. The lubrication is important because it is a physiological help to have a smooth current of air along the throat as this aids the mental perception of smooth pranic current.
