I happened to peruse the site today, and noticed the lubrication question. My father Sri Nerode had a male opera singer as Yoga student who used small amounts of oil every day to lubricate his throat. The small amounts collected in his lungs, obstructed breathing slowly, did not get absorbed, and he eventually died of self-suffocation. So it seems that water is somewhat safer. My father used isotonic saline solution.
