LM speaks of two, in one place even of three voids.

The Maharashtrian saint Samarth Ramdas in 'Dasbodh' even rejects the third void (Parabrahman) as illusory and mentions a fourth one. Nevertheless he continued to sing the glories of Ram and kept a theocentric stance.

So the question is what "void" really means. If it is restricted to "formlessness", there should be not more than one.

There is confusion about other terms too. "Purushottama" is an intermediate stage in Vedanta - meaning Saguna darshan at Ajna - but apparently something different for other yogis - something that includes all higher stages of Vedanta. Or "Vijana" which in Buddhism has a meaning completely different ("comprehensive knowledge" = ignorance) from that used by some yogis (e.g. Ramakrishna, Ramdas, ...).

I haven't studied Purana Purusha diligently. I guess "void" refers to Paravastha of Kriya, and "void of the void" to Nirvikalpa Samadhi.

Please also note that the notebook excerpts are from the first couple years of LM's sadhana only.

H
