I have of late visited another board where the debate has raged about whether lines of kriya are valid other than SRF and if so, if the teachers are acharyas or gurus. Then the good ole mantle topic was rehashed.

My position is of course there are other lines from Babaji, Lahiri and so on.

Satyananda of SRF told me Jesus DID NOT declare a single successor but had at least 12 successors and perhaps more. Of course the catholics think Peter was the mantle sucessor.

Seems to me no successor need be appointed unless an organization is involved. Even then I think the other chelas can continue the lineage if they attain nirbikalpa samadhi. I think it a sad thing if no one attains this to carry on the line. The reality perhaps is thatonly a few do so.

Guruji said he would have of his direct chelas 4 siddhas and quite a few jivanmuktas. Anandamoy has said this. Both have degrees of nirbikalpa.

In the case of HareKrishna group Prabhupad made 11 guru successors and all heck broke loose with their foibles. Now the org has gone to a stance similar to SRF: Prabhupad is the guru and the initiators are a step down from that. much confusion exists asto wether they are gurus or not.

Prabhupad called himself the founder--acharya and not guru. In his view acharya is a guru it appears. I do not know how kriya lines view it. It seems to me Lahiri called people acharyas to initiate in his stead while he was alive and adfter he dies they would be gurus. To those with enough realization perhaps he made them gurus before his own death: ie Pranabananda. Please someone comment on what they know.

Guruji said he was last in the line of SRF gurus. This does not mean the other lines off of Babaji or Lahiri should stop as many SRF newbies like to assert. Nor does it mean chelas like Roy Davis outside SRF cannot be a guru if they attain the requisite consciousness.
Besides that it is left to the chela how he views the teacher. Who are weto judge if a person thinks another person is their guru.

Roy has told me the SRF position is a safeguard against Hare Krishna type guru foibles but its weakness is people aspire to Yogananda realization and not God realization. That is they do not feel it a responsibility to get nirbikalpa and then take responsibility to help others. Fact is, he told me a guru in the flesh is invaluable to model behavior, give encouragement when the student undergoes mystic states thatarevery unusual, and to give a good kick in the pants when needed.

I do not buy the idea you must have an avatar as a guru. Jesus was more advanced than John the Baptist (his guru) and Jesus attained emancipation.

To me God is the guru and we each mustbe willing to"pay the supreme price for the pearl of Realization" as Mother Hamilton used to say.

Yoganandaji says in his Gita that Yukteswarji was clearly the most advanced of the Lahiri chelas as he was chosen to train Yogananda for worldwide dessemination of kriya. Some may see Yukteswar henceas Lahiri's successor, though to my knowledge Lahiri declared no 1successor. Besides
that other lines seems to say Panchanan was the chief disciple. It may be argued also that Panchanan was the only chela given permission by Lahiri to make an organization: Arrya Mission. I do not know if Yukteswar's Sat-Sanga came after Lahiri's demise or not.

The other confusing thing about the mantle issue in SRF is that Yogananda declared it went to Rajarsi. But then Daya Mata also claimed it. Fundies of the mantle theory postulate it goes to only one.

My view is itgoes to only one officially but anyone else can havea measure of it if they are attuned.
