I do not believe in the existence of Babaji as a deathless avatar although I am open to change my mind if ever I should come across convincing evidence. Generally Babaji is brought in in order to justify some lineage claims - he serves as a means of justification.

Shibendu says he had altogether three experiences of Babaji and that he believes at least one of them to have been a genuine one.

The day he gave this story I was not present and hence missed it, and later he showed no interest in repeating it. So I can't help you here.

But someone told me that Satya Charan - according to his disciple Prakash Shankar Vyas - claimed that Babaji had passed away in 1986 i.e. shortly before Satya Charan's own death in early 1987. Another tradition has it that Babaji announced that he won't leave his body until initiating Kalki - the last avatar in the Hindu tradition.

Perhaps this ought to mean that Shibendu is the ultimate avatar. :-)
