Patanjali is the most famous proponent of yoga as a system. Like Lahiri Mahasaya he was probably a compiler of contemporary yoga techniques. It is a step-by-step process, with a Samkhya background (Purusha/Pakriti distinction).

Real Bhakti seems to be defined by mad lovers.

Yes, but one can be mad and yet keep a certain sanity at the same time.

Bhakti is a burning devotion. Apparently there is no limit to it. What matters is the Bhakti itself rather than its object.

Corrupted bhakti in the forms of sentimentalism or dogmatism I do not really like. Pure Bhaktas are rare.

I find Kriya to be very effective for removing the activity of the Gunas.

Nisargadatta writes that No-mind is pure Sattwa. Sattwa is one of the Gunas and generally regarded as a pre-step to realization of Atman.

“Yoga is usually understood to mean the performance of some mysterious practices by which one becomes gifted with miraculous powers. And there are many who are keen upon the knowledge of this practice in order to gain these powers. […] There is no mystery about Yoga. Simple union and the resultant identity with God is Yoga. Control of mind and senses through systematic practice suited to each individual temperament and nature constitutes the way.” SWAMI RAMDAS: God-Experience Vol. II, 1961, pp. 153-154
