Kriyananda in "the path" recounts thet Guruji says Hitler was Alexander the Great in the previous life and had a liking for yogis. He got the realized yogi Dandamis to go back to greece with him and this yogi took mahasamadhi in a fire. This is told in "Autobio of a Yogi". Look it up in index. It is likely that Guruji was this Dandamis in my humble opinion and that Alexander was a yogi in the past that cashed in his karma for power.

The puranas are full of stories of rishis falling in astral for beautiful women, getting attached to power as an Indra and falling. Or jealous in brahmalok of other great devotees.

It is my opinion that to succeed in yoga you have likely gone thru a few cycles of this rise and fall phenomena.

I also think one has had to be a king or rich as rich can be to see thru the illusion. You also have to master the outer warrior lessons if you can succed in the inner war.

Kriya is the end of the line.
