Sure, I have been sitting for the last thirty years too and I have been through the same experiences and I have thought just the same.
And yet, I recently met some people I knew before I started meditation, and had not seen since. They just went along the ordinary materialistic road, no spirituality. And I realised I was glad I had chosen the spiritual path, even though I may feel frustrated sometimes, I do not think I have wasted my time.
