I have felt many times in life that I could not go on. I felt I was done for. Other saints like Gandhi and Mother Theresa have said the same. But Gandhi said he was rescued by God in the eleventh hour every time. Yogananda wrote that also--I especially recall when divine mother was watching him to see if he would use his powers to heal his legs at a speaking engagement at the end of his life. At the last second when he was called up she healed his legs for him. Daya Ma was upset that Ma would let him suffer so and he scolded her for thinking that way.

Perhaps it is best said this way: God seems to test us just beyond our reach or we wouldn't stretch and grow. My teacher Tom Brown says the race is often lost at the last moment due to complacency. Sivananda puts it this way: "there is many a slip between the cup and the lip".
