Perhaps these sayings about God putting someone to test refer to the spiritual life.

Nature is merciless. Anyone can end up in a wheelchair or the graveyard at any time.

The Mother said, "Illness is for ordinary people. For those treading the spiritual path it is to keep them awake."

But this is a difference. If I go for yoga the tests - challenges - are just about me clinging to or deviating from the 'righteous path' or Swadharma. Regardless of consequences and social disapproval.

Apparently it is common to get an extra portion of one's share if one is doing yoga. I have just read the autobiography of Mother Krishnabai and in her early years of sadhana she was mocked at, molested and even attacked - just because she behaved selfless in society and she went to see Ramdas every day. For some reason people took offence with that. In one attack - actually while staying with Ramdas - she was injured so badly that afterwards she suffered from excruciating pain for several years.
