Subject: The cold heartedness of Lahiri mahasaya?

One of the stories from the the life of Lahiri baba has always disturbed me.
It is a well known story about Lahiri's response to his daughter's death. His daughter was dying from Asiatic Cholera, upstairs while Lahiri Baba was giving a discourse on The Bhagavad Gita downstairs. The wails of grief could be heard throgh the house, but Lahiri insisted on continuing with the lesson with his disciples.Eventually the disciples themselves could no longer continue because they were so disturbed.Among the disciples present was Panchanon Bhattacharya,Lahiri's chief disciple,in fact it was he who requested that the session should end.
This seems such an out of character response from the great guru titled Mahasaya or 'great heart'.Even jesus wept with the grieving. What was Lahiri's point?I notice that Yogananda does not mention this incident in his Autobiography, perhaps out of embarrassment.Could anybody offer any explanations?
