Dear Sundarar, thank you for your eloquent post. My experience is very similar. Also, in my experiences as an SRF monk, I've seen the futile and tragic results of false outer renunciation before the time is ripe for inner renunciation. I found it very painful in myself and very destructive in ashram life as a whole.
Certainly one should strive to control existing desires, but they can
only be replaced (like darkness) by the dawning realization of God's intimate presence. For that, do Kriya regular and go breathless without strain, even for a short time.
