My Guru said this back in the '70's when it wasn't popular...said all the f__'d up folks were in the ashrams. And this from a guy who lived at Sivananda's ashram for many years, and others.

Problem is, most folks see renunciation as a negation, but it ain't so. It is just that one becomes more and more saturated with spiritual pleasure. The shakti in the spine, as you say, gives rise to the greatest happiness. Its a natural process and it takes time. Folks become monks and try to force it. Renunciation is the result of spiritual immersion, not a pre-requisite.

Yogananda conveys this in the Lessons. I just started re-reading them again from the beginning. In Lesson 14, he tells the story of King Janaka, who says, "Attachment to possessions, and not possession itself, is the source of misery."

Yes! That sounds like scripture
