Sundarar,

my experiences with the sound are a bit strange, I dont know what else to compare them to. When I was young, about 13, and first started reading Autobiography of a Yogi, I used to hear a sound like a combination of several of the sounds the Master speaks about. It sounded like the flute, the bee and bells all together and occasionally a sound like many thousands of harps all being strummed at various intervals. That was a most beautiful sound. My feeling is that the combined sounds are the sounds of the lower chakras as heard from the heart, the first stopping place.

Sometimes if I go deep in meditation I hear the sound like a chorus of rising and falling notes which together play an indescribably beautiful symphony; it is a sound of nobility and divine love and feels very much like coming home whenever I hear it. When that sound comes, I know I am near great beings and it remains even after meditation if there is quiet outside.

I think Yoganandaji spoke of the bell as the sound of the peal of a bell which never stops, it goes on infinitely. That to me suggests that it is not the sound of many bells, but rather a single bell peal that is constant, though I admit I have never heard that. My feeling is that you hear the bell this way once you have withdrawn the energy from the three lower chakras and thus you hear the pure sound of the heart alone, not mixed with the other three below it.

I am happy for you that Ma plays with you so, you are blessed For me sometimes if my devotion is deep enough I find the Kriya goes on within me without my performing pranayam; that is the currents rise and fall of themselves, independent of my natural breathing and often this is when I hear the sound as the chorus I mentioned before.

My understanding of tantra is that it is the science of Kundalini in the hatha tradition and that sex is only one part of it, since that is the expression of Shakti through one of the chakras only, and that true tantra aims at the sublimation of sex as the urge to procreate so that one can focus on God alone and achieve the union.
