[> (Waving back to Cece.... Hi!) Yes, it was if they had JAG in mind when they wrote it, eh? ChrisK, I agree, there were some good eps in S7, and "Adrift 1/2" will always be favorites for me. I think TPTB did try hard to re-energize the show, and part of that longer-term success was due to a variety of factors.... -- The Chief (inside), 09:04:27 07/13/12 Fri [1]

Just my opinion, but....

JAG became a top-10 show during Season 5. Prior to that, it bounced around in the top 40. Still great numbers, with a dedicated, loyal fanbase. In Season 6, we got a new President, new "rules of engagement" for our military, a Commander in Chief who was a vet himself, as well as 9/11 bringing out many Americans' patriotic side. The mood of the country changed and people were looking for something that more closely reflected their views. JAG fit that bill. That influx of new viewers (helped along by old eps on USA, that fed more syndication monies into the studio), propelled JAG along, even tho those of us who had been around for a long time found the show to be bogging down and becoming a little ridiculous at times.

9/11 provided more story ideas for actual cases, so that helped create more episodes even though the character development took many strange turns. The new influx of viewers (in 2001) started watching a very different show than the one most of us started watching in 1995. But they still loved it enough to keep watching, even when it moved to Friday nights (tv purgatory). Maybe by then it had become more like the other tv shows they were used to with wacky relationship interactions and such.

Anyway, it was amazing JAG lasted as long as it did - without 9/11, it probably wouldn't have made it past S7 or S8. To me, that changes the dynamic a little in regard to the graphic I linked to, because I don't think Season 8-10 negated 3 early seasons (as the graphic indicates). Maybe on the whole, it only canceled out 1 to 1.5 seasons, but as a die-hard fan I might be biased ;-)

[> [> I liked S 7 too, but I didn't like the way they did the follow through after "Come to me." Some episodes were good in every season, except the second half of S10 which I hated with the white hot intensity of a 1000 suns. Btw, Adrift 1 was, imo, the best episode in the way it was crafted. Adrift 2, suffered in comparison, but was still a great ep...except for the Renee ending and a huge let down. -- Cece, 14:01:54 07/13/12 Fri [1]
