I agree it is not that rhythmic is bad in this country, it is not reconised as being a "true" sport. Rhythmic is al about dance and to become a top gymnast you have to be extremely flexible, have musicallity and fantastic coordination, but you also need to perform. In GB many of the gymnasts do not have it all naturally and unfortunately you can not teach performance and musicallity as it has to come from within the individual. It takes years to train a rythmic gymnast and all the gymnasts from especially eastern countries are trained from a very early age so by the time they reach 17 ish they are ready to compete at the top internationally.

Sadly in GB there is not the resources or the funding to train our gymnasts to this high level as most of them only train 10 - 12 hours a week and then the squad gymnasts have the odd week at lilleshall. This is clearly not enough they need to be training 25 or so hours a week to reach any kind of level, it is not that the gymnasts we have haaven't got the potential it is that they are not given the opportunity.

Maybe if rythmic was recongnised more GB would have a larger pot to select from as more girls would take up the sport. Also maybe they need to look at why thy lose them so early it appears that gymnasts reach a certain age in this country then give up WHY?

So I agree something needs to be looked at.
