A multifunctional Alumni Hall could have many uses including basketball, hockey and concerts in conjunction with the Quick Center. For example, hockey is a growing sport in Southern CT. I just read that Stamford is looking to build a second hockey rink to meet demand. If the new Alumni Hall includes a hockey rink it could be utilized not only by the Fairfield University and Prep hockey teams, but, rented out to local kid, high school and adult hockey leagues.

I suspect that if the University positioned the new facility as an "event" center that could be utilized to host both sporting and cultural events such New York Pops or Stamford Symphony Orchestra concerts, they might have a warmer reception from the Town of Fairfield.

Stagophile, the university has the Quick Center for its cultural events. The capacity of the place is about seven hundred. I attend a number of events there each year and have yet to see a sellout in spite of the fact that the offerings are very, very good. The artists are very talented and come from all over the world. What I learned from this is that the town of Fairfield and its environs are not communities where culture and appreciation for the arts are priorities. So expecting to use a renovated Alumni Hall for concerts probably would not be practical.
