What does that mean? We are never going to get top recruits again? If this staff is tainted with that incident then make a change. Excuses have to stop at some point. You can not win with just guards no matter how talented they are. There are too many mind games being played and the best talent is not always being played. We have seen this for years. Walsh? Carter? Give me a break! This coach doesn't seem to have the urgency to win. When you ask a question why these things are happening, you get a shrug and blank look. Well I for one am tired of losing games where I know we are the better team. I hope the pressure is being put on this staff to win. If it isn't, then maybe the inmates are truly running the asylum. I hope that is not the case.

No, it doesn't mean that we won't get top recruits again. But it does mean that during the time of the investigation, there is no way a top flight high school senior is signing with a school that might end up ON PROBATION. Go back and look at a list of big men FF was in on during the investigation and tell me if you think the investigation was not a factor in the decsion to go elsewhere. This is not an excuse. Its a fact!

This is a VERY important recruiting year, and its important that we get some impact players out of it. We need a big man desparately 6-8+, but we also need to bring in some athletic defensive players in the 6-3 to 6-7 range.

I agree with Sobro that the Investation hurt us, as we only had 1 freshman signee in 23 months, and that was Middleton. But as soon as the investigation was cleared in the next 3-9 months we get Herbie, Nero and Han. If we can get some big guys with similar abilities, then we should be very good.

The area that we do need to step up is getting a Big Man. IMO of what has happened is that TOT shot high on a his big men in did not get any. I am sure we had opportunities to lock up a type B or C recruit which were not any better than Middleton, but passed on them. Guys like the 6-11 Peter Stonkus of NJ who is redshirtiing at NJIT, or the 6-9 Ryan Shields from St Luke who went to Vermont and has played allof 16 minutes with 0 points and 0 rebounds.

IMO, TOT needs to closed the deal on a Type-A Big Man (or 2) that can play right of way..... a Robbie Thomson type.... that is the key. If we have to go the type "B" or "C" route, then we have to do it. But with the investigation completly behind us I thing we should stick with the strategy of holding out for a type-A big man.

I would agree that the investigation probably had some impact on recruiting.

But look at TOT's two recruiting classes prior to the investigation.

Todd
Maxwell
Bell

MVS
MOS

Todd and Maxwell are good MAAC players, but could any of the
other three be part of a 10-man rotation at Manhattan or Iona? Doubtful.

Maxwell and Todd would probably be starters on Iona and/or Manhattan, they are both all MAAC players. Todd is NOT having as a good of year as Burtt or Soliver so far, but he was the best player on the court on Tuesday night. The other 3 players would be part of the main rotation. MVS would be a great fit for Iona, and its hard to say how good MOS would have been this year.

The class that we really needed impact was from the players that did sign during the investigation.... Middleton and Oglesby.

Lets not go overboard on Iona's recruiting, as they had a great class 3 years ago, and they are now all seniors. Since then, their recruiting slipped to normal MAAC class. Gonzo has got some real good players, along with a lot of clunkers. But you can only play 5 players at a time, so it goes to show that you don't rate a recruiting class by its clunkers, but by its impact players. All schools have recruits that never live up to their potential.... even UCONN. The difference with UCONN and other big schools id that they just get rid of those players.

MOS will be one of the best players in the league next year. Bet on it.

Maybe the transfer or JC route is better for you guys for a frontcourt player... Makes all the sense in the world if u ask me... Those guys have experienced play that is superior to high school play... Hope TOT is considering those options at the very least...
