In reply to: Stagophile 's message, "XU: All For One" on 01:00:41pm 01/20/06 Fri,

I strongly disagree with the opinions that FU hasn't been commited to the program when 1) Fairfield currently has one of the MAAC's largest athletic budgets, 2) the Walsh Center was a major financial commitment, and the facility is considered on par with several Atlantic 10 and Big East training facilities, and 3) like it or not, moving to AHY took guts and showed a major commitment to put the Stags in a bigtime environment.

Yes, there are some things the school could do better in terms of MARKETING the program, but as far as money goes, we've put as much into the team as any MAAC school possibly could. I think TOT is more to blame for the not winning right now, plus the CT Post bogus NCAA violations really hurt recruiting IMO.

The university is very specific in the manner in which it distributes its funds. Many sports get virtually no help from the school. That is not my idea of a healthy and equitable system and what it really does is perpetuates mediocrity.

The Athletic Depart did publish how they have put all Division I sports into 4 tiers, and given each of them a different level of support. And I think the number of Scholarships is by far the biggest ticket item. The last I knew only Men's and Womes's hoops were Tier 1 sports.... which meant they give out the maximum number of scholarships allowed by NCAA.
