Subject: TOT "refuses" to play Holy Cross?

According to Sader1970 on the Holy Cross MB...

RW talked about scheduling and teams refusing to play us. He said he does not blame his fellow coaches because some of them said to him, essentially, reverse the situation, would you play you? He agreed, he probably wouldn't. He did tell me afterward that he would be willing to play PC at the Dunk but they won't even do that. They have tried since Ralph has been at HC to play Fairfield and THEY refuse. He said it is not the athletic directors refusing to play us, it's the coaches who don't want to lose to us. URI is now on the list of teams who won't play us as is Iona and he said that Fordham would like to ditch us but Dick has done a good job of keeping them in the fold.

Is this true? Why is TOT refusing to play Holy Cross? Win or lose, I think a series against Holy Cross would be great for the fans and I am sure would draw one of our biggest crowds. I personally think it is shame.

Very true, the game against Holy Cross would be an awesome game for stag fans. Even if we did lose, at least Fairfield would be a little bit more visible with playing more out of conference teams.

This is one of Fairfield's smartest moves, if true. I wouldn't play Holy Cross for a century until their truck their rear ends down to Bridgeport to play at HY.
A win over HC gets you nothing today - plus you have to put up with their unbridled arrogance.
Come to Bridgeport, Crusaders...or forget this one!

Wouldn't want that Big Man to find out what you said, so unless your real name is Henry Pym, ya might get squashed!

=;)

Its not that we refuse to play HC, its more that we refuse to accept their unreasonable requirements. I will not get into the details of it, but the story I heard was basically they wanted us to play a game up at their place 1 day after we got back from Long airline flight from a road game. We offerred many other options, and offerred to play the game up in their place first. I think it was their take it or leave it additude which makes it difficult. I also think we did have a tentative date set one year, but HC wanted to backed out of it because they had an opportunity to play in a Tourney or play Kansas (Something like that) . I think we were flexible and said OK..... but did that make the negotiations any easier with them. No way.

I am not just going to bash HC on this, because I am pretty sure we are not angels either and have stood our ground and not made every effort to make this game happen, but when I read this on the Fordham Message board .......
"Iona & URI were dropping HC and that Fordham would like to do the same but Reagan ( I believe he is the AD) has "been holding it together so far". And I hear other things from Providence fans about negotiations with HC, I think I can see whay things are not happening.

With all that said, and all that has happened, the last I heard, Fairfield still wants to setup games with Holy Cross..... But we are also looking at Boston College. I hope both will happen, but likely only one of those games will happen. And my guess its BC..... unfortunate.

My impression is that H.C. is difficult to deal with. The school wants to dictate the conditions under which these games are played. At the moment H.C. has had 16 home games and we have had, I think, 10. Another thing I heard is that H.C. wants us to play up there initially. The element of fairness seems to be missing from this relationship. Arrogance, perhaps. Don't play the Crusaders until they get their fannies down to Bridgeport.

Or maybe it's because they play a tough matchup zone and that causes fits for opposing teams. There aren't too many teams that go to Worcester and win.
